South University recently had its latest annual National Faculty Meeting where several members of the faculty received awards for their hard work. Enjoy reading about the award winners and the honorable mentions for each category.

Excellence in Service Award

This award recognizes South University colleagues who have made exceptional contributions to the University’s service mission within their department or college, across campus, or in their scholarly community.

Award Recipient: Adam Dominick

Adam Dominick has been the Director of Nursing Academic Operations since January of 2023, and has been at South University for 8 years in various positions in many departments.

Honorable Mentions: Amanda Mills, Dr. Mackenzi Meier, and Rebekah Lewis

Excellence in Research Award

This award recognizes South University faculty in all disciplines for their outstanding research accomplishments while at South.

Award Recipient: Dr. Robert Wolff

Dr. Robert “Bob” Wolff has taught at South’s Columbia campus for almost 20 years and he has helped write the courses for many of South University’s health and science courses.

Honorable Mentions: Dr. Gergana Velkova and Dr. Brain Collins

Excellence in Instruction Award

The Excellence in Instruction award recognizes excellent teaching by part-time (adjunct) faculty who consistently demonstrate outstanding teaching strategies, activities, and the promotion of learning by undergraduate, professional, or graduate students.

Award Recipient: Patricia Trnka-Stone

Patricia Trnka-Stone has been teaching at South University for 3.5 years in Women’s Health and Pharmacology, occasionally teaching BSN students.

Honorable Mention: Dr. Jill List, Dr. Freddie Arocho-Perez, Dr. Heidi Garguilo, Dr. Christopher Gude, Amber Gadow, and Dr. Patrick Udeh.

Excellence in Teaching Award

The Excellence in Teaching award recognizes South University full-time faculty who have consistently demonstrated outstanding teaching strategies, activities, and the promotion of learning by undergraduate, professional, or graduate students.

Award Recipient: Donna Nalley

Dr. Donna Nalley has served as Director of the South University online English program since 2011, and has taught at the university since 2008. Her focus as an instructor is on student engagement and success.

Honorable Mentions: Dr. Michael Curran, Dr. Amber Dietrich, Kelly Lucore, Sondra Nantes, Paula DeVore, Dr. Sonia Brown, Steven Combs, Dr. Maha Coucha, and Damian Kravets.

Distinguished Stingray Award

This award recognizes South University colleagues who embody the mission of the university, produce quality work, and consistently display characteristics valued and appreciated by coworkers. They are a reliable compass continually pointing the university in the direction of its goals and aspirations.

Award Recipient: William Faust

William Faust is Dean of Student Affairs of South University’s online programs since December of 2022. In his current role, he is responsible for items including graduation planning, working with high level student concerns, student communication, event and project management, and any other initiatives brought to him by university leadership.

Honorable Mentions: Mallorie Williams, Darlene Sperlazza-Anthony, and Kris Tindol.
