Students Teach Parents and Children Backpack Safety

1888

South University, Richmond Associate of Applied Science in Occupational Therapy Assistant program students recently spent the day teaching parents and students about how to prevent backpack injuries.

The students volunteered at the We Care (Wellness Education Community Awareness Resident Empowerment) festival, which is an annual health and wellness fair. South University students educated parents and students on the correct way to lift, fit, carry and fill a backpack. Using the slogan “Pack it Right and Pack it Light”, volunteers reminded students and parents to limit the weight of a backpack to less than 10 percent of wearer’s weight to avoid injury.

Programs, credential levels, technology, and scheduling options vary by school and are subject to change. Not all online programs are available to residents of all U.S. states.
