South University is pleased to announce Dr. Shari Cartwright, PT, DPT, as Co-Chair of the Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) programs. Dr. Cartwright joined South University in April 2018 as the Program Director of the PTA program at the Columbia campus. Originally, Dr. Cartwright moved to South Carolina to attend Winthrop University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology while competing for the Lady Eagle softball team. She completed her entry-level physical therapist education while earning a Master of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences, PT, from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2000. She practiced as a PT for 13 years before entering academia, where she helped start the PTA program at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College as the ACCE. She continues to practice while teaching and returned to school in 2017 to earn her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Montana. She has had the opportunity to complete poster presentations of her doctoral research at the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professionals (ASAHP) annual conference, South Carolina Physical Therapy Association annual conference, and at the Educational Leadership Conference of the American Physical Therapy Association. Join us in congratulating Dr. Cartwright on her new position with South University.
