South University alumna Suzanne Selb credits the connections she made as a student with launching her career in the legal field. Selb says a faculty member noticed her intense interest in the law, and helped her secure an externship at the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office.
“After a successful interview, I was offered the paralegal externship and assisted at the prosecutor’s office for just over 120 hours,” Selb recalls. “I managed to successfully work part-time, extern part-time, and be a full-time student during those months.”
Selb says the externship soon turned into another opportunity.
“The people I worked with and met were all so knowledgeable and welcoming; after such a positive experience, I knew I wanted to work as a paralegal in the criminal law field. Luckily a month later, that office was hiring for a paralegal.”
Selb got the job and continued her education. She graduated with honors from both the Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies and Bachelor of Science in Legal Studies from South University, Virginia Beach. She then attended a local law school where she earned her Master of Arts in Law degree.
