Paralegal Scholarship for Students in Richmond

SU Richmond (Spring 2010) - The Jean H. Proffitt Scholarship Fund was established by the Richmond Paralegal Association to assist Richmond metro paralegal students with tuition and text book costs.

This scholarship award is based on merit and whether the applicant demonstrates a dedication to the program and will likely succeed and become a contributing member of the paralegal profession and legal community.

The RPA Scholarship Committee will select a $1,000 scholarship winner and will provide written notification regarding the outcome to all applicants.  Scholarships will not be awarded to the same recipient in two consecutive years.  The Scholarship Committee’s decision is final.  Interested candidates should visit RPA’s website at www.richmondparalegals.org for membership information and a scholarship application.

 
Richmond Campus Gets Free H1N1 Vaccinations

RichmondVaccineBrittanySU Richmond (Spring 2010) – Students, faculty and staff received free H1N1 vaccines earlier in the month from the Henrico Health Department. Personnel from the health department were at the campus at various times during the day to give the vaccinations which were also extended to family and friends of anyone attending or working at South University. Dr. Sharon Broscious, program director for nursing, worked with the health department to coordinate the visit to the campus.

Richmond Library Celebrates National Library Week

SU Richmond (Spring 2010) – The Richmond library kicked off a weeklong series of activities to celebrate National Library Week on Monday with free bookmarks that highlighted the theme of the Week – Communities Thrive@your library. NationalLibraryWeekTroy

Activities continued on Tuesday with the start of Ring-Around-the –Databases quiz. Students stopped by the library to pick up quiz cards with four questions that were designed with information literacy in mind. To find the answers to the four questions, students had to go to the library's literature, newspaper, eBooks and biography databases.  Quiz cards with all correct answers were entered into a drawing for a $25 Amazon gift card.

On Wednesday students entered a drawing to win mystery books by James Patterson and a South University flash drive.NationalLibraryWeekFolole

 

 

The week of activities ended with President Troy Ralston drawing names for the National Library Week prizes in the library. Lucky winners were Folole Wang (Amazon gift card), Shaunté Williams (SU flash drive), TJ Snyder (mystery book) and Erick Galkowski (mystery book).

Folole was pleased to win the Amazon gift card and was planning on using it to add to the personal library which she is creating.

Erick Galkowski was planning on taking his James Patterson book on his flight to Arizona. "Hey, it's large print too!" he said.

Legal Studies in Richmond hosts the Richmond Paralegal Association

RICAmyVaughan_webSU Richmond (Spring 2010) – The Richmond Campus hosted the March 23rd meeting of the Richmond Paralegal Association. About 35 paralegals were given a tour of the facilities and then welcomed by Richmond Campus President Troy A. Ralston.

Legal Studies Director David Shapiro was the keynote speaker and shared with the paralegals the art of critical thinking and how to apply it in different settings including the legal field.

Amy C. Vaughan, president of the Richmond Paralegal Association thanked South University for hosting the event and RICTroyRalston_webwished it much success in the area.

Richmond raises awareness for heart disease

RICWearRedinsideSU Richmond (Winter 2010) -  Students, faculty and staff brought out their favorite red sweater, shirt, scarf, shoes and tie on National Wear Red Day® (February 6) to show their support for women’s heart disease awareness. In addition to posters that were placed in the library and classrooms, information about the risk factors for heart disease were also posted around the university.
