Representing Licensed Mental Health Counselors, the recently elected Board is tasked with promoting the value of the statewide association and with growing a stronger sense of community among its members. “I expect to see the same success with Florida’s association, and I know that with determination and collaboration, the FMCHA can also be a strong advocate for our members.” |

West Palm Beach Student Nurses’ Association Goes Above and Beyond |
|
SU West Palm Beach (Spring 2010) - This past fall 2009, the Student Nurses’ Association, led by Katie Kiger-Creslein, decided to go the extra mile. One of the nursing faculties, Dr. David G. O’Dell, a Doctor of Nursing Practice, and a founding member of the Doctor’s of Nursing Practice, LLC and Doctor’s of Nursing Practice Professional Development, Inc., asked his Nursing students for help. “I asked the nursing students here at South University, through the Student Nurses Association to help if possible. Many did just that. If it were not for the kind generosity of these students volunteers the conference would not have been as good.”
These organizations share a mission, to provide forums for communication, share timely information, and create a venue to demonstrate the contributions of nurses with the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. The students that were able to attend and volunteer had the unique opportunity to sit in on the plenary sessions of nationally known speakers in the nursing discipline.
The first conference in 2008 was held in Memphis, Tennessee, the second took place in 2009 in Miami, Florida, and later this year, the 2010 Third National DNP Conference will be in San Diego, California. As a result of the student Nursing Associations assistance, these professional organizations hope to incorporate volunteer’s at all future conferences. Dr. O’Dell was proud of his nursing students and noted that “they were witness to, and supported the growth of the Doctor of Nursing Practice degree by assisting conference attendees with this event. The entire university should be proud of their contributions.”
