English Professor publishes magazine to promote unity

SAVJFosterSU Savannah (Fall 2009) – Dr. Josephine Foster, an English Professor at South University, saw a need in her Savannah community, and she decided to do something about it. She began publishing a magazine on creating unity titled Coastal Christian Magazine.  As a regular churchgoer, she noticed that churches in her community had a need to come together, regardless of race and ethnicity.  She refers to this lack of unity as the “Great Sunday Morning Divide.”

As a gifted writer and talented teacher, she got to work.  Just like she advises her students before they begin writing about complex issues, Foster began her research. She started contacting local church and ministry leaders to discuss her observations and to collect ideas from primary resources. The first edition of Coastal Christian was published the first week of October 2009.  The magazine, which is scheduled to publish four times per year, includes articles by Dr. Foster and columns and narratives written by local church leaders and parishioners.
