SU Columbia (Fall 2009) – Criminal Justice Program Director, Denny Powers, M.F.S, EdS., was elected to represent Region 11 of The Forensic Association of the Carolinas (FACs), which was established to raise awareness of proper forensic evidence collection and investigation techniques for every level of response in criminal prosecution.

“Supporting FACs in their mission goes hand in hand with my teaching,” said Powers. “The opportunity to promote the accurate education of forensics and to dispel the myths of forensics, which are often propagated on television shows such as CSI, is an opportunity I couldn’t say no to.”

In this role, Powers works with all of the law enforcement agencies in the Midlands of South Carolina to advance the mission of the association. In particular, he works to increase educational opportunities for the entire emergency response system, from dispatch and first responders to district attorneys, and of course criminal justice students.
